So I am watching TV, and there is a commercial for the Droid Bionic where these guys in Halo suits jump out of the back of a military type plane with some ball of lightning, and in the bottom of the screen is says "Professionals, do not attempt"... I mean seriously, are people really so fucking stupid that we have to tell them not to jump out the back of a plane?

Gotta love the warnings on commercials and products in general.

Sad part is that they are all there for one reason only and that's because someone has done something stupid enough many times over I'm sure and then sued the shit out of the company so now they protect themselves even how stupid some warnings appear!

Yes, people are that stupid. Just recall the lawsuit of the dude that set his Motorhome to 'Cruise Control' then went into the back to relax and the vehicle crashed.

In court he said that it didn't say in the owner's manual that setting cruise control required you to be in front of the wheel at all times and he won the case.

The US Judicial system has fucked the entire world as they've thrown out 'common sense' and rely on properly written warnings for everything now.

Case two: the chick that burned her legs putting McDonald's coffee between her legs and it spilled. She won because it didn't say "Caution: Hot Beverage"

I'm well aware of the story and that it was a matter of the lawsuit being that the coffee was scalding, higher temperature than one would expect coffee to be at home. My point is despite this fact she still was a major contributor to the reason why she was burned as she decided to put the cup between her legs to add cream and sugar and it spilled. Had she not done that she would not have spilled the coffee on herself. Faulty lid, whatever, she's a fucking idiot.

My point was that you now you see warnings and disclaimers anything on everything that can remotely cause a moron to file a lawsuit. The last line I wrote above is said in every toy commercial where they use show products moving by themselves. Why is it there? Because someone sued about it.

Regard your example above, if its not written or displayed, someone will attempt it and then sue when they're hurt because there was no disclaimer.

The US is pretty much based now on who can sue for something stupid first and get rich.

Like i said, you don't know the story. Wasn't about a faulty lid, just 180° - 190° drive-thru coffee spilled on her lap that instantly gave her 3rd degree burns and 2nd degree burns. Required 8 days in the hospital, skin grafts, and two years of medical treatment. She asked for $20,000 to pay for the curren $10,500 in medical bills, plus the future treatments she would require. McDonalds refused and offered $800. So she took them to court, and after all the testimony and finding out that there had been more than 700 similar reports of being burned and McDonalds settling out more that $500,000 in claims, the jury found McDonalds negligent, recommend they be fined $2.7 million in punitive damages, which the judge later reduced to $480,000. Plus her compensatory damages of $160,000.

So I say McDonalds is the fucking idiot for serving 180° - 190° coffee in their drive-thru, receiving over 700 burn complaints, paying out $500,000 in settlements, and not figuring out that maybe they're coffee was too hot. Seems like the jury and judge agree.
