It's a mac, it takes care of herself.

Do Macs take care of themselves in that way? I need to know as I am just starting to use one for music production.

Weekly - Every Saturday.

Saturdays are PC repair day for me. I back up a handful of important files, delete shit I don't need, and run a defrag. Even though I haven't lost a hard drive in years, I have before in the past and because I back up stuff often I've never lost anything important.

Also, any time I take pictures...... I copy them over to my computer and before I do anything else I burn them to CD - now on DVD really.

It's been far too long since I cleaned up. My system drive is small but fast.. it's got about 7 gigs more.. but my work/play drives are near to capacity. Almost 200 gigs of games, music, and mostly resumes..

Perfectdisk (http://www.raxco.com/) is a my fave defrag program, low on cpu and its quick.

And I can't live without Spybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html) and Adaware (http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2008/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5&cdlPid=10844457).

That and Registry Mechanic (http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/) is the ONLY registry cleaner I have ever trusted.

There's something everyone should have and do everytime they shut down that I've posted many times.
There's a program called Cleanup which is free.
If it's run before shutdown it'll get rid of all the temp files for one and most Trojans, Malware ect nowdays are in the temps and activate with a bootup.

Second if ya puter is running slow look in your C-drive for a
file called pagefile.sys, it's not needed (Put it in Google search for more info) and even a Defrag doesn't effect it.
I just looked at mine and it has 3.29 GB of crap in it.

I'm pretty much well-organized so there's not too much shit hanging around here and there on the hard drive but I always look up every couple of weeks just in case.

Here's the link, other people here use it I'm sure of that and I've used it for 2 years.
Just run it on it's default setting...
