View Full Version : Crazy weather... it's getting REALLY bad

Sydney's been hit pretty bad. Newcastle is worse.

The power (http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/thousands-without-power/2007/06/09/1181089377502.html) is out. It seems everywhere but RIGHT WHERE I AM :D

I thought the internet was down for me. That'd be tragic. But we're back on.

Meanwhile tens of thousands are flooded and without power. And here I am living right across the road from the coastal lake. Which is incredibly high. If it another 2 feet then we'll have water coming in through the front door.

Ships are being washed ashore (http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,21876642-5006009,00.html). I heard that there were 9, either grounded, or perilously close to being grounded. Which could be a load of old bunk, but it'll make for an interesting tourist attraction along our beautiful beaches.

Some of the biggest trees are overturned roots and all. It's madness.

Wish me luck.

Still safe and dry.

The inlaws and a lot of other friends are without power. One has a newborn baby and hasn't had power for two days.

I think I'll set my alarm for every two hours after midnight to check and see if the lake has crossed the road and entered the front door.

It's about 10 metres away in distance (in length, not height). We have tides (it being connected to the sea and all) but as far as I've seen low tide doesn't look any different from high tide.

The supermarket that's five minutes walk from here is the only one open in a 15 km radius. All the other ones are outta commission due to flooding and no electricity.

The most problem we've had at the moment is flushing the toilet. It's backing up a bit. It'd be from the sewerage system being flooded. But otherwise we've been doing real good right where we are. Knock on wood it continues to stay that way.

Man I wish you to survive in that disaster ;) So do you really still think that it's much better to live where you can surf?! :D

The water has dropped another 6 inches I think.

It looks nice outside. There's someone out on a sail boat as I type this.

A lot of damaged property, lots of missing cars (they've probably been swept into the harbour) and also a few missing people.

12 people reported dead. We had a very big earthquake here back in 1989 and 13 people died. I suspect that when the final numbers are tallied it'll be more than 13.
