I always have about $100 in local currency at home should I need to lock myself up and live on delivery for a week.

How much do you stack away at home?

Here's a tip for natkejs: if you roll up paper money very tightly and you snip a little hole in the seam on the side of your jeans with a pair of scissors, you can tuck away a few hundred dollars in your pants.

I had a cousin caught in a tight situation in a third world country where he and some other guys got thrown in jail. One of the guys had done that in case something happened like that.

They used the money to bribe a guard to take a note to their embassy.

True story.

Sounds pretty smart.

I used to carry money, spare credit cards and identification in hidden pockets and shit but I stopped after a year or so of traveling... these days I don't even get vaccinations no more... I'm lazy.

Been in a couple of situations where I wished I would've had money on me but so far so good :)

enough quarters to do laundry.

I've got a dish of change on the dresser in my bedroom.

I bought one of those coin sorters for my loose change so every time I come in I chuck it in there. When it reaches the full amount I put the coins into coin bags. Ive saved the equivalent of about $1600 in less than a year by doing that. I would say that in change at any one time I keep the equivalent of about $600 in the house (its bloody heavy so any thief would need strong arms) plus normally have the equivalent of about $2-250 in my wallet.

Like stouch, a lot in change as I save it as well. Right now it's about 20 lbs. of coinage so I need to get it to the bank soon. Fortunately my bank has a coin sorter so I just lug the bag there and they dump it into the machine that sorts and counts it. I'd never have the patience do that.

Cash? Enough to bail me out of jail if need be.

$100 bill hidden in my wallet which I've had to use and replace several times over the years.

1. i seen a chick who we later found out had gonorrhea pick up a $30 stack of quarters with her pussy.

2. my cousin was mad at a dude working the window at a local burger king and wiped his ass with the money before he paid em in the drive thru

3. i know a guy who keeps his money in his underwear but he said he only keeps it there when his herpes dont flare up

4. this chick i know had some ones rolled up to make it look like a big wad and left it on her table for the night. woke up and the dog ate it. she waited til he passed it, rinsed it off and took it to the bank. then went to the atm to get some "clean" money

those the most nasty things i can remember off hand

Here, I just took this pic on my phone of the coin sorter and had a count up of the bagged coins (407 - about $800).

Bagged coins?

who bags their coins?

Lee2
04-08-2007, 04:49 PM
Banks do. For instance 50 x 10pences in a bag, 10 worth of 20 pences, 20 worth of 1 coins etc.

You get the bags off the bank, let the coin sorter count them, take them to the bank, they weigh them to confirm the count and deposit the money in your account.

Lee2
04-08-2007, 04:50 PM
The weird thing is the amount you can save by just chucking your loose change into the sorter. Literally in the thousands each year year...

I don't keep any cash on me at home. The local delivery places all take debit/credit cards so don't even need cash for that. I even use my card if I stop for fast food these days.

I do have a little gold and silver in a safe downstairs if I really needed some cash though.

It must be a third world country thing...in the U.S. we roll our coins. You can tell if a roll is full just by looking at it but weighing is an option, I quess.

So rolling your coins and taking them to the bank is quicker and easier for you then taking them in bags?

pam
04-09-2007, 06:56 AM
They weigh them at my bank, too, if you bring in rolled coins. Rather than opening them and counting them, they weigh and if it comes up short, then they have to open it and manually count them.

I think the rolls and bags seem to do the same thing although the scales the banks use will say if there is one coin short. Then you just add one to the bag.

My mom got me in the habit of stashing money away in the freezer...It's neat cuz it's easy to forget about in there... "Outta site, outta mind..."
We just keep adding to it whenever we can, so I'm not sure how much is in there right now...

I only hold about $AU50 in my wallet at any given time, and about $100 in change around the house. For anything costing more than my wallets contents, I will use a card or just go to an ATM.

Seems silly to hold cash when I can throw it into a Savings account and get interest
