ok, im done deleting all these emails from spammers.

Some idiot is using one of my domains as sender, and i get about 300 bounced emails a day. he uses different usernames on them so i cant just block it easily.im tired of this crap, so:

What tools do you guys use? like for example spamarrest?

and a big thanks to the guys that hacked nats and spam us webmasters with porn 100 times atleast per day. i love you. i sign up to everything you send me. i promise.

Set your default email for the unrouted mail to :fail: you can do this in cpanel or whm on your server. Basically the goof is just making up email addresses using your domain ending...so qewrsdfa@yourdomain.com, qwerqwe@yourdomain.com, etc, etc...this is delivering the email through to your catchall email...setting it to fail will basically take all the made up email addresses and delete it straight-away.

I was getting flooded by some japanese mail server, 2000 emails a day, that cut it down to next to nothing. As for regular spam junk I just write rules in outlook express as annoyances come up.

I have catch-all's turned off on my server and still get thousands to my main email accounts.

You do? I've never gotten a piece of mail that I wanted to read when someone just makes up an email address...just make up the popular type emails the usuals would guesstimate and use, like webmaster@yourdomain.com, support@yourdomain.com, etc, etc, and I seriously doubt you would notice any decline in meaningful email.

Well, I was reading remotes question and his apparently is coming from someone making up multiple emails from the domain...the :fail: should work in his situation.

For people using email that comes from a legit address, there's a few things you can try. You can use a spam blacklist, you have to set up your server to read spam blacklists like dnsbl.njabl.org, bl.spamcop.net, sbl.spamhaus.org, cbl.abuseat.org...this would probably take care of most of the spam a person gets in the day, but I don't like using a third party blacklist as you're bound to run into not getting emails from someone wrongly blacklisted.

I do use spamarrest for the more annoying spam junk, write a few rules and it'll delete the junk before it gets to you, but I haven't been getting as much spam mail like before so writing some rules in outlook is enough for me at the moment.

I've got dozens upon dozens of rules set in outlook, trendmicro anti-spam too. but its the shit like "get new med" I cant blacklist "med" cuz of things like medium pimpin having med in it i'd miss mails from the board or sponsor etc.

It's just fucking absurd to spam a webmaster list, I highly doubt ANYONE on those lists is going to bother reading them let alone buying the shit

Well, the third party blacklists does it by IP addresses of offenders...so that might be the only option for you to get rid of the spam. I had it set up for awhile on my server and I have to admit it was nice only getting 40 important emails a day rather than 10,000, lol.

The only reason I did shut it off was that I got paranoid I'd miss some important email because of it, but honestly with it on it was just so nice and easy.

Spammers are in to spam because...well it works.
And at the same time, anyone can become a "webmaster" these days. I bet the "make money!!!" link on paysite tours get a good ctr. and who doesnt want money, when it is so "easy"....

still, it fucking annoys us here, for sure. I just dont get the guys that hacked nats, im getting well over 200 emails from them per day, and whats fucked up is that every second email they send is promoting the site/sponsor that the other email address is stolen from. Cant be hard to track down the theif....

well, its a domain ive used for over 5 years. there are alot of sponsors, boards, lists, ppl and what not that i have given out an alias to.
Sure i dont get alot! of useful shit from them, but i still dont want to block it all.
But for other domains, for sure i dont need full use of catch all.
