I've ridden a bike twice. Once when I was 12. My uncle was teaching me. I popped a wheelie and he fell of the back. Then again with some friends. It was up in the mountains behind big bear. It was fun but I couldn't get the hang of shifting so I crused most of the day in second gear lol

Actually can get them for $10,699 retail here in Texas. So you can set aside the extra $4300 for life insurance and skin grafts! :lol1:

holy crap..nice.
The estimated dealer price on the website here was in us funds, so I just did some guestimate math for the price.

There's a ton of bike shops here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and most bikes can be had for less than manufacturer's suggested retail. Except Harley's, they tend to all be 20% over MSRP.

Actually I like the R1 in "Racing Red" over the "Factory Blue".

red's nice, but ever R1 I've seen between ottawa and toronto has been either red or silver. Haven't seen a single blue, unless they're all hiding.

Manufacturer's Sugg. Retail Price...$10,699
It begins with a third-generation, 998cc, liquid-cooled, short-stroke, 20-valve, in-line four-cylinder engine designed to make 180 horsepower power at a stratospheric 12,500 rpm. The shorter cylinder head is re-angled farther forward to 40 degrees, far enough forward to allow the main frame spars to go over the engine instead of around it.

I think your underrating it speed ;)

up here, you'd be totally nuts to run anything over 180km/hr on our highways, they're redoing them and the pavement doesn't always match up to great. The old stuff isn't the best for high speed either :(

opps..something I just thought of. I couldn't ride it anyways, I let my motorcycle licence expire cause I didn't have a bike. I'll have to go through graduated licencing here I bet, they brought that in for bikes now too, and it's only good in ontario :(

hmm, maybe..there's that whole mountie always gets his man attitude here. My cousin's fiancee is a cop up here in ottawa, and they have a very good record with high speed persuits, they hang back and slowly cut down your options by radioing ahead, and soon force you into a dead end or to somewhere they can end the chase and block you off.

Goblin
07-04-2004, 03:04 PM
yeah fluid the radio can get you but the only good thing bout a bije is you can short cut threw peoples yards :D

as to harleys buell those are ugly bikes but i have never checked specs on one itis said that in the 600 class the gsx and the ninja are the 2 fastest bikes

Fluid
07-04-2004, 03:07 PM
I dunno if they're the top bikes in the class, but they are superbikes with harley engines, so they're not deadly slow.

I like the Buell Lightning, the technology behind it's chassis design blows away a lot of what is coming from the Japanese machines.

 :bounce:  :bounce:  The issue with Harleys is the motor, umm how can I say this, THEY SUCK, they have an off set crank pin, which gives the farm tractor, I mean Harley the sound that all white trash loves!

This is also why at idle you can watch the front wheel vibrate off the ground.

When I worked at Honda years back they came out with the Honda Shadow, to compete with the Harleys, the motor was 1100cc instead of the Harleys 1340cc, and the Honda was fast smooth and was a fun ride, but they did not use the offset crankpin, so it did not have that unique Harley sound. You know the one were it sounds like the motor is trying to rip itself apart:)

So the sales sucked it did not vibrate, or backfire or do all the nasty stuff Harley's do so no one wanted it.

Then Honda came out with the ACE same as the Shadow but with the offset, slow as hell but it sounds like a Harley, they sold like crazy.

Yep, for all the neat technology that the Buell team poured into their bikes, it still has that big 2-cylinder paint-mixer in the frame rails.

Still, I'd like to have a Lightning. Almost bought one last year, then a good friend of mine got smacked pretty bad by a dumbass in an SUV. He made it through, broken hip, multiple leg fractures, broken arm, cracked ribs, etc. Now walks with a nice permanent limp because of some dipshit driver that wasn't paying attention. If I ever move out to the sticks I'd get a bike, but NOT while in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
